Most Demanded Ultra Wide Angle or Fisheye Lenses

Ultra Wide Angle - Fisheye Lenses
The Ultra wide angle lens is a camera lens of a short focal length having a wider than normal angle of view. The Ultra wide angle or fisheye lenses are also known as Short Focal Length Lenses, this is because the focal length of fisheye lens is less then about 17mm for a 35mm camera. They were actually known as whole sky lens. This type of lens can capture an extremely wide image, view of these lenses results in image distortion as the curved lines appear straight and straight lines may appear curved. The Fisheye lenses have always been in demand by elite class photographers, filmmakers, and architectures. The photographers shooting broad landscape who want to suggest the curve of the earth often use this kind of lenses. The first ultra wide angle lens was the Robin Hill Sky lens of beck, which was developed in 1934 for mapping formation of cloud.

There are two types of ultra wide angle lenses one is the circular fisheye and the other is the full frame ultra wide angle lens. The circular fisheye can take in a 180 degrees hemisphere and can project this as a circle within the film frame. These lenses have 180 degrees vertical, horizontal and diagonal angle of view. These types of lenses are used in some models of scientific applications.

After the popularity of this type of fisheye lens, the lens companies began manufacturing lens that can enlarge the image circle to cover the complete 35 mm film frame. This type of fisheye lens is known as the full frame ultra wide angle lens. These lenses can only measure up to 180 degrees when measured from corner to corner. These lenses have 180 degrees diagonal angle of view, while the horizontal and the vertical angle of view are smaller. Most of the photographers used this type of ultra wide angle lens to have view from all angles. Nikon produced the first full frame ultra wide angle lens which was a 16 mm lens.

The ultra wide angle lens makes images appear to diminish in size quickly as the distance from the camera increases and the objects which are close to the camera appear as if they are far apart. The Fisheye or ultra wide angle lenses are available in the market with prices from under $100 to $1000 or more and that completely depends upon the brand and the focal length of the lens. The Ultra Wide Angle Lenses are also available in the market and in online shops so that you can buy them and enhance the performance and ability of your camera. There are also some that are available in auto and manual focus models. The quality of the picture largely depends upon manufacturer’s brand of the ultra wide angle lens. Some famous brands are Acer, Sony, IBM, In focus, view sonic, 3M, Canon, Hitachi, Lenovo, Mitsubishi, Optoma, Okidata, Philips, Premier Mounts, BenQ, Casio, Epson, HP, NEC, Olympus, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba and ASK Proxima.

One can purchase the lenses from a wide range of brands in the market these days. Many manufacturers offer instructions and answer frequently asked questions too so great help can be taken from them.
